 JULIENNE BUENAVENTURA

ARTISTIC INTERN

Julienne Buenaventura was born in Manila, Philippines and raised in Queens, New York. Beginning in a local ballet studio, her passion for dance deepened as she studied at the Ballet Tech New York City Public School for Dance under the directorship of Eliot Feld. During her high school years, she studied at the Martha Graham School under merit scholarship, and later at the Ballet Hispánico School of Dance. There, she was awarded the Nuestro Futuro Scholarship for two years and the Artistic Director Award in 2019. She was welcomed in the MOVE|NYC| Young Professionals Program in 2018, receiving mentorship from Nigel Campbell and Chanel DaSilva. She has received additional training with Movement Invention Project 2, directed by Nancy Turano. Julienne is currently pursuing a BFA at the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance, under the direction of Nelly Van Bommel, along with a minor in Gender Studies. Through the Camille A. Brown and Dancers Mentorship Program, she has also been mentored by Maleek Washington. Thus far, Julienne has performed works by Tadej Brdnik, Nigel Campbell, Chanel DaSilva, Eliot Feld, Roderick George, Martha Graham, Rodney Hamilton, Maddie Hanson, José Limón, Shamel Pitts, and Cindy Beth Salgado, among others. Julienne’s personal research explores how she can decolonize and bring honor to her Filipina culture through dance.
