AMBER MAYBERRY

Amber Mayberry is a dancer, actress, and dance educator. A native of Washington, DC, Amber began her classical ballet training at the Washington School of Ballet, and later trained exclusively with the late Fabian Barnes. Amber graduated cum laude from the State University of New York- Purchase, earning her BFA under the tutelage of Kevin Wynn, Richard Cook, Kazuko Hirabayashi, and Ted Kevitt. Amber has performed and toured with the Trey Mcintyre Project, Donald Byrd’s Spectrum Dance Theatre, Elisa Monte Dance, Wideman/Davis Dance, and Washington Reflections Dance Company.

A gifted soprano, Amber is as much at home on theatrical stages as she is in the arena of concert dance. Amber made her Washington, DC theatrical debut in Measure for Measure at the Shakespeare Theatre, and played the title role of Mary in Donald Byrd’s Black Nativity. Her other theatrical credits include Oklahoma! and On the Town at The 5th Avenue Theater and performances with the Washington National, Seattle and Baltimore Lyric Opera houses. Ms. Mayberry joined Disney’s The Lion King in 2014 where she has now performed with the Broadway and national touring productions.

In addition to her professional obligations, Amber is an advocate for making arts education accessible to all: leading classes in Washington DC, and various workshops nationwide. She is currently on faculty at the Dance Institute of Washington and has taught at The Maryland Youth Ballet, The New Orleans Ballet Association and ‘Reframing The Narrative’ at The Kennedy Center.
